Dog has eyes removed after owners don’t pay for treatment – then they abandon him

A blind dog whose owners had their eyes removed to skimp on treatment was abandoned in “a case like no other.”

Louis, the three-year-old Labrador / Shepherd mix, is now waiting for his Eternal Family to find him after being greeted by an animal rescue center at the end of December.

The Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe, California, USA, claims Louis was permanently blinded by his former owners who chose to resolve his eye infection by removing them.

Heartbreaking, Louis arrived at the center still adjusting to his total loss of sight that had led his former owners to abandon him.

A medical examination revealed that the dog also had old untreated injuries, which were likely from a collision with a car, People reports.

The three-year-old is currently in foster care

Helen Woodward Animal Center director of adoptions, Hella Tyler, said in a statement, “It is extremely important that people who are considering purchasing a pet know their obligations with these animals.

“When people take their pets off Craigslist for free, they don’t seem to realize that pets have monthly responsibilities and expenses for their upkeep, including medical care.

“In turn, these animals will provide their owners with unparalleled love. They will pay it back ten times. It’s just devastating to see an animal treated like Louis was treated.

Louis was quickly placed with a foster family to learn about living in a family home without being able to see.

Louis’ adoptive owner advises he should be adopted by someone with another dog

The center hopes that someone can quickly offer her a “sweet home” with another “sweet dog”.

Helen Woodward Animal Center wrote on Facebook : “After weeks of convalescing and adjusting to living with his host family, this loving and calm three-year-old #Lab #Shepherd mix will be looking for his forever home starting Wednesday.

“When asked what would make the perfect match for Louis, his adoptive wrote: ‘Louis needs a sweet home, a story, someone who is home all the time with a another nice dog. He told me to let you know! ‘
